Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT) - Program Options
You have completed your tinnitus assessment, and TRT has been recommended for you. This page outlines exactly how the program works, what each stage costs, and the two pathways available to you.
— Stage 1 —
Stage 1 — Getting Started
These two appointments apply to everyone, regardless of which pathway you choose.
Initial Fitting Appointment — $250
Your sound therapy device is fitted and individually calibrated based on your tinnitus assessment. You take home a loan device to trial for 1–2 weeks, and we begin your personalised sound therapy program with full instruction on daily use.
Follow-Up Appointment — $150
Approximately two weeks after your fitting, we review your progress, fine-tune your device settings, and ensure your program is tracking as expected. At this point, you choose how to continue.
— Stage 2 —
Stage 2 — Choose Your Pathway
After your second appointment, you select the option that best suits your situation.
Option A — Device Hire
$1,000 per 3-month block (includes one appointment + device hire)
This flexible option is ideal if you would like to trial sound therapy before committing to a device, or if no hearing loss is present. At the end of each block, you can continue with a further 3-month block or transition to purchasing your own device. These are specialist sound therapy devices individually programmed to your hearing profile and tinnitus characteristics, specifically designed for retraining the auditory pathways.
Clinic-grade sound therapy device, fitted and maintained throughout your program
Additional appointments beyond the included session are billed at $250 each
A Medicare rebate of approximately $61.80 applies per appointment with a Chronic Disease Management Plan from your GP
Option B — Purchase Your Device (Recommended if Hearing Loss is Present)
Purchasing your own device provides a permanent therapy and hearing management solution. Pricing is discussed at your appointment, as it depends on the level of technology selected. Your device purchase includes three months of appointments. After this period, further appointments are billed individually as needed ($250 each).
Individually programmed to your hearing profile and tinnitus characteristics
Provides seamless long-term management of both tinnitus and hearing
A Medicare rebate of approximately $61.80 applies per appointment with a Chronic Disease Management Plan from your GP
— Medicare —
Medicare Rebate
We recommend asking your GP for a Chronic Disease Management Plan prior to starting therapy. This provides a Medicare rebate of approximately $61.80 per appointment. Medicare does not cover the full cost of therapy.
— What to Expect —
What to Expect
Most patients begin to notice improvements within three months, with the full course of TRT typically spanning 12–18 months. Clinical studies show TRT produces meaningful improvement in 74–84% of patients across all tinnitus types (1). When combined with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, outcomes improve further — with success rates reaching 80% at nine months (2).
While tinnitus can feel overwhelming, it is a manageable condition and most people find significant relief with the right guidance and tools. You do not have to face this alone.
